What can one say to explain the display of our boys at Woking last Saturday when we were well beaten 5-1.
Our team looked good for precisely ten minutes during which time we attacked persistently and took the lead in the sixth minute as the result of a long throw-in from John Evans to David Swain who slipped the ball to Danny Lakey for the winger to tap home.
A few more attacks in which Swain, appearing in the first team for the first time this season, twice went close and then the rot set in.
Goals by Finn and Cooper gave Woking the lead. From then on Woking took command and went further ahead as the result of an inexplicable defensive blunder when John Swannell took a short goal kick to John Evans; the half back lost possession to O'Riordan, whose shot was handled by Geoff Riddy.
Centre half, Wood, made no mistake from the spot to give Woking a 3-1 half time lead. Five minutes after the restart the home side went further ahead.
With Woking quickly changing from defence to attack it came as no surprise when O'Riordan scored number five outpacing the defence, to hit the ball past advancing Swannell.
In the last seconds Laurie Churchill found the net but the goal was disallowed. A game in which none of our side could be said to have played with any credit.
