Hendon's preseason preparations took a knock on Saturday afternoon as they went down to a 3-0 defeat at Northwood.
The Greens began brightly and had an early chance when some good build up play saw Leon McDowell given a good chance but his shot went narrowly wide. Shortly afterwards Lee Tunnell went close for the home side before Nas Richardson saw his shot go wide after 10 minutes.
Ten minutes later Hendon had another chance when Josh Hunt made a good run down the right wing but was unable to find the target. Northwood also had further chances, the best of which fell to Peter Dean who saw his shot across goal run wide of the far post.
Northwood had a goal disallowed in the 32nd minute when Wayne Carter found the back of the net after Tunnell had strayed offside, but the opening goal was only delayed by ten minutes.
The referee played a superb advantage on the halfway line and Dean broke clear of the Hendon defence. Craig Vargas made an excellent challenge, but unfortunately the ball fell to Gavin Hart who curled the ball beautifully into the top corner to give the home side the lead.
Early in the second half Dean Powles had a good chance to double the lead but his shot was deflected away for a corner. Shortly afterwards McDowell went close as he sent his headed effort just over the bar from a corner.
By far and away Hendon's best chance of the game came in the 72nd minute when some excellent build up play from Jamie Busby and Wayne O'Sullivan set up Richardson who saw his shot tipped just over the bar by Rob Bullivant in the Northwood goal.
Ten minutes later Northwood's lead was extended when the Greens' defence failed to clear their lines and Ross Hanley was able to slide the ball into the net. The final goal came in the final minute when Peter Dean broke clear and finished clinically to complete the win for the Southern League side.
