Hendon had another useful run out on Saturday afternoon, as they ran out 4-0 winners at Southern League side Barton Rovers. The Greens again made ten changes during the game and included several trialists that have already appeared this summer, all as substitutes.
It took just eight minutes for Hendon to score their first of the afternoon. Glenn Garner received the ball on the left of the penalty area following good work from Dave Diedhiou and drove the ball home.
While the Greens remained on top in a competitive half, it wasn't until the 29th minute that they extended their lead with Wayne O'Sullivan scoring his first goal since his return to the club this summer. Again Diedhiou was involved in the build up, this time passing to Peter Dean in the middle of the penalty area. Dean passed to O'Sullivan on the left hand side of the box and the Irishman's drive beat the keeper.
At half time, manager Gary McCann decided to make five changes, but that didn't seem to make a difference, with it taking just another ten minutes for the visitors to extend their lead further. Mark Kirby spotted space behind the defence and played the ball through for Brian Haule who cooly slotted the ball home.
A further four changes were made immediately, with only Craig Vargas remaining from the original ten outfield players (he was to be substituted towards the end) along with Berkley Lawrencin in goal. Sam Berry then nearly added to the tally, being unfortunate to hit the bar from around twenty yards and then - from a similar distance with the rebound - forcing a smart save.
However, it only delayed the inevitable as with ten minutes to go, Lubomir Guentchev completed the scoring. Clever interplay between the young Bulgarian and Yacine Hamada ended up with Guentchev having a good sight of goal from six yards and taking advantage with an excellent finish.
