Hendon are back in home action on Bank Holiday Monday as Metropolitan Police come to battle for three Southern League South Premier Division points. Kick-off at Silver Jubilee Park is at 3.00pm.
The Greens will be looking to put behind Saturday’s disappointing 4–1 defeat away to Truro City (Joe White converting a late penalty for Hendon), leaving the club bottom of the table without a point and goal difference of –10. The Blues, however, are in mid-table with two wins and two defeats (and a zero goal difference), as well as Saturday’s 1–1 draw with Winchester City at Imber Court when Harry Taylor’s early goal was cancelled out by the visitors just before the break.
Hendon and Met Police have been regular rivals for a dozen seasons, dating back to the 2011–12 season. In 2021–22, home advantage was decisive as the Greens enjoyed a 3–0 victory at Silver Jubilee Park, Liam Brooks, Eren Kinali and Joe White getting the goals, but a solitary effort from Ollie Robinson settled the game in the Blues favour in the return.
Former Hendon striker Gavin McPherson is in his fourth full season as manager of the Police, having been predecessor Jim Cooper’s assistant for many years and he has assembled a new squad for this season. His team will start with a huge advantage in terms of rest, given they had a home game on Saturday and Hendon’s players and staff will have had less than 36 hours between arriving home from West Devon and setting off for NW9.
