Two second half strikes gave Hendon a 2-0 win over National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough this evening at Silver Jubilee Park as the Greens welcomed back former manager Gary McCann and a number of other familiar faces to their old stomping ground.
The visiting side, who had mixed and matched their squad with another match in the offing tomorrow, had the best chances of the first half with Fred Burbidge producing three excellent saves to keep the game level, two from returning goal-legend Niko Muir.
Less than two minutes after the restart Shaun Lucien broke the deadlock in typical style as he stepped in off the right-flank and drilled a low left footed shot into the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area.
The Greens had the better of the second period, although Burbidge had to make another fine save to deny Muir, before a well-worked second goal five minutes from time that owed much to excellent work down the Hendon left by Jayden Clarke and was netted by a trialist completed the scoring.
Next for the Greens is the marquee friendly on Friday evening against an Arsenal XI, kick-off for that will be at 7:30pm.
