Chesham United are the second of our opponents that we will be renewing rivalries with this season. Like Basingstoke most of our competitive meetings were during the 1990s and 2000s, although our first meeting was way back in 1919 in the FA Amateur Cup, and we also met in the FA Cup in 1927.
The club was formed in 1917 when Chesham Town and Chesham Generals (who took their name from the General Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway) agreed to merge. They spent the inter-war years in the Spartan League, before joining the Corinthian League in 1946. A move to the Athenian League followed in 1963 when the Corinthian League disbanded, before a switch to the Isthmian League in 1973 - starting in Division Two. They moved to the Southern League in the 2004 reorganisation where they have remained ever since.
