Hendon Under-16s disappointingly failed to hold onto a half-time lead and slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Hanwell Town in the Harrow Youth League yesterday morning.
Although they had the better of the first half, it took until the final seconds of the half for them to make the superiority tell. A long throw was flicked on at the near post, and Sharif Malik hooked the ball back over his head, over the keeper and into the top corner.
Unfortunately the Greens were unable to go on from this position and conceded a goal after 50 minutes, no defender quick enough to clear a rebound when the initial effort was saved. And things got even worse 15 minutes later when Hanwell scored what proved to be the winning goal.
"It was a very disappointing second half display," said assistant manager Liam Coogan-Jobes. "We did well in the first half and deserved to lead, but we let it slip. My man of the match was Ignacio Ezquerro, who was very solid at left-back, an alien position for him - he's normally a midfielder."
