Gary McCann could not contain his satisfaction after the defeat of Merstham at the weekend. He said, "This was so important for us.
"The failure to win at home was becoming a bigger and bigger issue and we had addressed it in the dressing room. We didn't want to keep mentioning it, but it was clearly affecting the players.
"I think we deserved the win and could have been well in front at half-time. It was more difficult in the second half, but I must praise our defence.
"Luke Tingey, a day after his 20th birthday was outstanding as were Casey Maclaren next to him and Tom Lovelock behind him. But credit also has to go to Jamie Smith and Arthur Lee at full-back and 'Big Dave' Diedhiou in front of him.
"This win will, I hope, stop the rot and get us out of the rut into which we have fallen. There is still a very long way to go, but another point about the win was that it keeps us in touch with the teams around us and we are only three points from 16th in the table.
"We would of hope to of gained some confidence from the victory and we can now go forward to a very difficult game at Tonbridge next Saturday and then onto a tough game against AFC Sudbury, who aren’t too far in front of us."
