Gary McCann was delighted to return to winning ways yesterday and he admitted, "I am pleased with the result and, overall, with the performance. I think we are all pulling in the same direction."

He added, "It was an important win at this stage of the season. There was a stronger side mentally to our team.

"We said our season started with the draw against Kingstonian on Monday - after what had happened on the Saturday - and we followed it up against VCD.

"In the first half we were excellent and could have been four or five up at half-time. But we weren't as good in the first part of the second half.

"When they pulled it back to 2-1 we played our best of the half. We showed really good mental strength and could have gone on to win by more than 3-1.

"We have made a few adjustments to the squad but I think we are stronger overall but I am still looking to add one or two."
