The first team let themselves down with poor discipline this afternoon, with Sam Murphy being needlessly sent off for retaliation midway through the second half. Alongside the dismissal, Scott Shulton picked up his fourth booking of the campaign, and his third of the season for dissent, leaving him just one caution away from a suspension.
Sadly, until the red card both sides seemed more intent on trying to do the referee's job rather than trying to play football, which made for a poor spectacle for those in attendance.
The home side took the lead in the 25th minute when Gareth Heath found the back of the net in what was an evenly matched half. After the red card, the Greens dominated possession and played really well, but were unable to find the final ball.
The final nail in the coffin came as the game moved into stoppage time when Patrick Brothers saw his cross from the left wing fly over Joe Wright to ensure that Leiston took the three points to remain top of the table, having dropped just two points so far this season.
If the squad want to ensure they are in the hunt for promotion this season, they need to take a long hard look at their discipline, and concentrate playing football the right way to ensure they return to winning ways against Harrow Borough on Monday afternoon.
