Hendon played for 70 minutes with 9 men this afternoon, but were able to secure a point as they drew 2-2 with Lewes in an eventful game.
The first man to go was Sam Flegg, who was very unfortunate to be dismissed for a professional foul. Karl Beckford stepped up to take the spot kick, but managed to hit the bar.
Five minutes later the Greens were a goal ahead as Dean Cracknell flicked a Scott Cousins free kick home with his head. Shortly afterwards, however, Hendon were down to 9 men when Casey Maclaren was sent off for violent conduct, a decision felt by many from both sides to be rather harsh.
However, this didn't deter the Greens who doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Cracknell found Kevin Maclaren in space and he slotted the ball home past the keeper.
Just before half-time, Lewes were back in the game when they were awarded a soft penalty which player-manager Simon Wormull converted.
The second half saw the vast majority of the action in Hendon's half as Lewes laid siege, but the performance from the Greens was absolutely heroic as they held firm for 41 minutes. The equalising goal came late in the half when Ben Godfrey bundled the ball home from close range.
The result, along with results elsewhere, mean that the Greens are now mathematically safe from relegation, with seven games to go.
