Hendon reached the final of the London Senior Cup for the fifth time in seven years as they won 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon. It is the second year in a row that the Greens have beaten the Wombles in the semi-finals of the competition.
The result is also the first time the Greens have beaten Football League opposition since the FA Cup win at Leyton Orient on 25th November 1997. Last year the Wombles were still a non-league club.
Both sides made a number of changes from Saturday, with Tico Gavi-Mihedji and Jack Mazzone making their first starts for the Greens.
The Greens took the lead in the 8th minute when Jerome Federico scored following a free kick - his first goal for the club, but then for much of the rest of the opening period, the Wombles were well on top but unable to find the back of the net.
Hendon scored early in the second half, this time Mazzone opening his account for the club with a fine strike in the 50th minute, and the Greens were in control from here on. Brendan Kiernan made things interesting with an 89th minute goal for Wimbledon, but Hendon were able to hold on to secure progression to the final.
The final is due to be played on Wednesday 18th April at Metropolitan Police. Our opponents will be either Kingstonian or Cray Wanderers who play their semi-final on Thursday 12th April at Kingsmeadow.
