Hendon progressed to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup this afternoon, beating Oxhey Jets 2-1 at the Boundary Stadium. The attendance at the game was 376, which is a record gate for the Hertfordshire side.
Whilst the Greens did enough to win the tie, Oxhey will have felt themselves unfortunate to be behind at half-time after Elliott Charles had turned the ball into the net just before the break.
Oxhey came back into the game immediately after the restart when Lewis Putman equalised with a fine effort, but as the game reached the hour mark, Greg Ngoyi restored the lead for Hendon with a fine finish of his own.
The remainder of the game saw the Greens have most of the possession, although Oxhey did have a couple of half chances on the break, whilst Elliott Godfrey and Casey Maclaren saw efforts go over the bar.
Oxhey will have ended the game disappointed not to have earnt a replay, but proud that they had been able to limit a side two levels above them to just two goals. We wish the Jets all the best for the rest of the season.
