Monday 28th August - U's snatch late winner

Sutton left the LOOT stadium today with all three points, having snatched a last minute winner after a free-kick, given for a foul by Fitzgerald. The kick was well saved by debutant Richard Wilmot, but Nko Ekoku put the rebound away, leaving Hendon with half a minute to attempt to reply. The Greens came away from the game pleased with their performance overall however, having dominated the game for long periods and looking much the better side.

Tuesday 22nd August - Kelly spot on for the Greens

A late converted penalty from Warren Kelly following a foul Jon Daly (the other goalscorer from a goalmouth scramble meant that Hendon gained a well earned point against a very physical Heybridge side. After going in 2-0 down at half time, a superb second half performance preserved the Green's unbeaten start to the season, but other results prevented them from staying top of the pile.

Tuesday 22nd August - Saturday's win: best for 33 years

Hendon enjoyed their biggest opening day win for 33 years when they recorded a 4-0 defeat of Croydon at LOOT Stadium on 19 August. It was back in 1967 that Hendon went on a second half scoring spree to rout Dulwich 5-0. Hendon's first five season openers in the Isthmian League produced pairs of wins over Clapton (2-1 in 1963 and 8-3 in 65), and Dulwich (6-0 in 64 and 5-0 in 67) and a 3-0 defeat of Barking in 1966. However, it took 22 years for another opening day win to be claimed by the Greens (4-1 at Bromley) in 1989. In that 1989 game, Hendon scored their 24th goal since their last opening victory - the same number they had scored in the first five years. The half-time score of 3-0 matched Hendon's best ever opening day lead at the interval, matching the 4-1 scoreline in 1965.

Hendon's opening day record in the Isthmian league is : P38, W11, D16, L11, F70, A49

Croydon were Hendon's 25th different opponent in an opening day fixture. 11 these are in the Ryman League Premier Division this season, 4 are in the Nationwide Conference, 4 in Ryman League Division 1, 3 in Division 2 of the Ryman League, 1 club is in Division 3, 1 is out of the Isthmian League and the other is now out of senior football).

16 opening day fixtures have been at home, while 22 have been away.

Chesham United, in 1992-93, were the only champions to open their season with a game against Hendon.

Hendon have never conceded more than 3 goals on opening day in the Isthmian League.
