We have a double header of home games coming up over this bank holiday weekend, both against promoted clubs who won their respective divisions last season.
On Saturday afternoon we entertain Division One South champions Kingstonian. The K's have had a rotten start to the season, suffering a string of heavy defeats, including 6-1 at home to Aveley last Saturday, and then 5-0 at Dartford on Tuesday. Their manager, Alan Dowson, is reported to be looking at bringing in a number of new faces ahead of the weekend fixtures in a bid to stop the poor results. This means that it could well be a tougher fixture for us than it may initially appear as we aim to build on our good start to the campaign.
Then on Monday afternoon we will be visited by Division One North champions Aveley. We last played Aveley two years ago in the FA Cup, eventually winning 3-2 in a replay at their Mill Field ground. The Millers started well with two wins and a draw, but were defeated 3-0 by Margate on Monday evening. They entertain Carshalton Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
Both games will kick off at Vale Farm at 3.00pm, and the bar will be open before the game, at half-time and after the game as normal. Supporters are reminded that on Saturday, the Rugby League Challenge Cup final is taking place at Wembley Stadium, so roads and public transport is likely to be busier than normal.
In terms of public transport, the Bakerloo line is closed between Paddington and Elephant & Castle on Saturday, but the London Overground and Piccadilly Line are both running a full normal service. On Monday, the Jubilee Line is closed between Stanmore and West Hampstead, but the Bakerloo Line, London Overground and Piccadilly Line will all be operating a full bank holiday service. Buses are also likely to be disrupted by the Wembley traffic on Saturday, so if you are travelling by bus, please allow more time than normal for your journey.
