Saturday 26 February - Standard Telephone Company 1 Hendon 0
Despite fielding a team that included eight players with first team experience, our reserves were knocked out of the Middlesex Intermediate Cup as the result of a one nil defeat at the hands of the runaway leaders of the London Commercial League, Standard Telephone Company at Southgate last Saturday. Our boys made the mistake of trying to plough through the middle where conditions were most difficult and ignored the comparatively drier wings. After centre forward Emery had given the home side the lead our boys tried desperately to get an equaliser and though they hit the crossbar twice and the upright once they lost the game through their own thoughtlessness.

Saturday 19 February - Wycombe Wanderers 3 Hendon 1
Though beaten 3-1 by the experienced Wycombe team, team manager Harry Harding was quite pleased with the display of the youngsters. Jim Jenkins scored in the 65th minute after trailing 3-0.

Saturday 15 January - Oxford City 2 Hendon 0
Forced to field an experimental side with centre-half Roy Tweed at centre-forward, our second string provided little opposition to the tough Oxford City reserves, though the defence did well to keep the score down to two goals. With no link man, wing halves Micky Cooper and David Shacklock had to play a defensive role, with the result that the forwards were rarely in the game, the exception being Peter Howard, who made several useful runs down the left wing. A defensive lapse let in Oxford's outside right, Scholl, for the first goal after 13 minutes and the same player made the game safe in the 78th minute, side footing a hard cross from Gordon past Whittaker.

Saturday 27 November - Enfield 1 Hendon 2
Our second team continue to make progress and beat Enfield away far more convincingly than the 2-1 score suggests. Playing against a strong wind in the first half our lads put up a display of fine all-round football and this newly built team promises to develop into a strong formation. We went ahead in the 28th minute when a fine Peter Howard shot was handled in the penalty area and skipper George Rocknean made no mistake from the spot. Another Peter Howard effort added the second and a fine header from Terry Wordsworth struck the post with the goalie well beaten. Over elaboration the second half plus a heroic performance on the part of the Enfield goalie prevented our going ahead. Coltman reduced the arrears for Enfield close on time.

Saturday 20 November - Barking 1 Hendon 2
After five successive League defeats, our reserves came back to their true form when winning at Barking by the odd goal of three. The home side consisted mainly of last season's first team and the final score did not reflect the superiority of our lads. The most pleasing feature was the near return to true form of inside forward Peter Dean and the magnificent marshalling of the defence by Roy Tweed. The Barking defence was equally tight but we should have gone head in the early stages, both Peter Howard and Pat Elvin being unlucky with close efforts. In the 27th minute a fine Peter Dean shot was pushed out by the goalie for Roy Sealey to crash the ball into the net. Holley equalised for Barking but in the 72nd minute David Swain ran on to a ball from Peter Dean, rounded the back to place the ball past the advancing goalie to seal the match for Hendon. Micky Cooper showed his versatility by playing a fine game at right half. Two well gained points and a pointer to the fact that the tide has turned for our reserve boys.

Saturday 30 October - Hendon 3 Harlingham Oddfellows 0
Our second string had no difficulty in going a step further in their efforts to retain the Middlesex Intermediate Cup when goals from David Swain, Peter Howard and Fred Pudney took us into the next round when we meet Rolenmil, a Business Houses' League team, at Enfield on 4th December.

Saturday 09 October - Hendon 3 Sutton United 4
This game saw the end of our reserve's wonderful run of 61 home games without defeat when the visitors managed to score the deciding fourth goal eight minutes from time. Sutton soon established a two goal lead as the result of efforts from centre forward Goodall and right back Hillard, but we managed to level the scores with goals from inside left Jukes and wing half George Rocknean. Sutton went ahead again after the interval with a twice taken penalty, the referee ruling that young Ray Miller had moved in brilliantly saving the first attempt. After shooting wide in front of an open goal centre forward Jenkins redeemed himself with a fine equaliser only for McCarthy to score again to give Sutton the points. We had the chances an d a little more steadiness up front could have saved the game.

Saturday 02 October - Hendon 4 Wealdstone 1
This was the reserves best performance of the season and doubly welcome against their close rivals Wealdstone. Man of the match was Roy Drake, who was making a come back after his rib injury against Bromley on September 11th. Playing in the centre-forward spot Roy set a fine example to his young colleagues scoring two excellent goals and bringing his colleagues into the game to good purpose. Another player to shine was young Barry Mitchell in goal who impressed the committee men with his anticipation and safe handling of the ball. He was only beaten from the penalty spot two minutes from time and should be an able deputy for John Swannell or Roy Whittaker should the occasion arise. Bobby Wills and Peter Dean completed the scoring

Saturday 18 September - Hendon 1 Ilford 1
Our second string turned in another below par performance against Ilford at home last Saturday but there was some excuse as Bobby Ellison was carried off with a bad knee injury shortly before half time and took no further part in the game. Peter Gray got our goal in the 19th minute from a penalty after Rod Cullum had been brought down when clean through. Bad finishing prevented our boys making the game safe at half time. With only ten men the game developed into a battle between our defence and the Ilford attack and it was a bad pass back by Ron Tweed, eagerly pounced upon by inside-forward Carter that gave Ilford their equaliser. Brilliant work by young Barry Mitchell in goal kept us in the game.

Saturday 04 September - Hendon 2 Woking 2
The reserves were more than lucky to gain a point against Woking reserves at home last Saturday for it was their worst display for some time and vast improvement will have to be maid if they are to be finish Champions again this year. The visitors led after nine minutes through Rod Hyde only for Peter Dean to level matters at half time. Potts put Woking ahead again after the interval but Rod Cullum equalised ten minutes before the final whistle.

Saturday 28 August - Tooting & Mitcham United 2 Hendon 6
Although our reserves clocked up six goals against two in their away game with Tooting, the match was not an attractive one from the football point of view. A goal up in three minutes from Rod Cullum put us on the right road and he and Peter Grey increased the lead to three before Tooting scored just on half time. On the resumption the visitors gave us a very anxious twenty minutes but again we got the goals through Peter Grey, Peter Howard and Rod Cullum to complete his hat-trick. The Surrey club scored their second on the stroke of time to make the score more in keeping with the run of play. Sixteen year old Ray Miller performed well in his debut in goal but the man of the match was undoubtedly left back Gil Jones.

Saturday 21 August - Hendon 4 Clapton 0
There was no mistaking the superiority of our reserves in their opening home league match of the season against Clapton reserves even through the visitors showed very much improved from than on their previous two visits here. In the early stages it looked as if our lads would have a tough time against this team of six footers, but the older hands in the side marshalled the young ex "A" team boys to good effect with the result that the longer the game progressed the better our boys shone, even though the play did not reach the extremely high standard to which we have been accustomed from the 2nd XI in recent seasons. Their speed of movement was quite exceptional bearing in mind their youth and credit for this must go to our assistant coach, Jonny Saunders, who set his younger colleagues a fine example from the right back position. Both goals had narrow escapes in the early stages when Rod Cullum flashed the ball past the upright after receiving from David Jukes and Barry Mitchell did well to push a high dropping ball from the Clapton right winter over the bar for a corner. In the 31st minute a Jim Jenkins corner was handled in the penalty area and Peter Gray scored from the spot to make the half time score 1-0 in our favour. Six minutes after the restart a free kick just outside the box gave us goal number two. The well known ruse of Jimmy Quail and David Hyde was put into use: Peter Gray tapping the ball to Peter Howard for the inside right to blast the ball into the net. Goals three and four soon followed when 16 year old David Jukes, making his debut at inside left, laid on the perfect passes for Rod Cullum and PEter Howard to make the score 4-0. Acting skipper Micky Cooper excelled at left back and 21 year old Brian Crockett also showed good form. This useful wing half has had experience with Bexley and Welling before moving to Watford and joining Rickmansworth.
