Steve is the son of former Hendon stalwart Roy Butler. Joind in December 2001 after travelling around the globe for most of that year. Previous clubs include Berkhamsted Town, Harrow Borough and Hemel Hempstead. Steve scored the all-important winner against Enfield Town to take Hendon to the Final of the 2001/2002 Middx Senior Cup. Originally a midfielder, Steve did extremely well in the Hendon defence to earn himself the Supporters player of the year award. Moved to AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2004 along with Dave Anderson.
