Utility player who joined the club in 1933, Lewis Ralph Ward made his first-team debut at home to Enfield in September 1934.
Played most of his matches as a wing-half, but filled in at centre-half, full back, or in the forward line when required.
Newspaper reports showed him variously as L. Ward, R. Ward, or L.R. Ward, but his preferred name appeared to be Ralph.
