Seen as a great prospect for the future, John graduated from the club's youth structure to make his senior debut in February 2004. John spent a brief loan spell at Ware at the end of that season, before returning to become a regular at Claremont Road. John stayed with the club throughout the 2004/5 and started a third season at the club but despite being top goalscorer he left to return to Ware before the season was out.
