Cup - and a trip to Staines Town - with a comprehensive 5-0 defeat of near-neighbours Kingsbury Town at Silver Jubilee Park on Tuesday night.

After Joel Sapiro had thrown himself in vain at a left-wing cross in the opening minute which might have given Kingsbury the lead, Hendon soon exerted control. Mark Phillpott had already covered himself in glory making two fine saves in the opening 10 minutes - denying Simon Clarke and Eugene Ofori - when his defence let him down again.

A short backpass in the 12th minute was latched onto by OFORI, who took the ball past Phillpott and had time to steady himself before rolling a shot into the corner. After missing a number of chances in earlier games, Ofori's delight at scoring was easy to understand.

Phillpott kept out a couple more efforts from Ofori and Byron Bubb as visitors confirmed the class-gap of three divisions between the teams. However, the second goal, after 34 minutes, would have graced the greatest of international stages.

Bubb, playing on the right side with Dale Binns restored to the team on the left following his suspension, came off his wing and cut inside a defender. He looked up and took careful aim. In the blink of an eye BUBB's shot flew into the roof of the net with Phillpott little more than a spectator.

Four minutes after half-time, Hendon got their third goal and it was very similar to the opener against Sutton on Saturday. Davis HAULE played a one-two, this time with Paul Fewings, before slotting the ball home from close range.

The tiring Kingsbury defence was caught out again midway through the half. Binns and Bubb, tired of torturing their opposing full-backs, switched wings but continued to make life a misery for each full-back. BINNS was in the middle of the pitch when he fired low 20-yard shot that Phillpott seemed transfixed by as it went into the net. The ball was not struck that hard and was not placed perfectly in the corner, but Phillpott - who must have been unsighted - made no attempt to reach it.

Binns set up number 5 with one of his trademark runs. He got to the bye-line, looked up and delivered an inch-perfect cross which Paul FEWINGS buried in the net with a close-range header. In the dying moments, Assistant Manager Jon Turner was given his debut.

"I told the boys we should treat this game exactly the same as we had against Sutton and they did it well," said delighted manager Dave Anderson. "If we had turned up with the wrong attitude we could have been caught out."
