Hendon, who went more than 18 months between away League victories have now won three in a row as a stoppage-time goal took the spoils at Egham Town.
The Sarnies’ Runymede Stadium is on Tempest Road and whilst the weather may not have been Shakespearean bad, it was a very miserable afternoon.
The groundstaff did a fine job in getting the pitch into a playable condition, but the quality of play was more Caliban than Miranda.
Nonetheless it was the Greens who were the more creative and in the first half, J’Ardell Stirling, Javon Marquis and Sam Shaban went close before Shaban ran onto a flicked ball from Nikolai Krokhin and he beat Michael Edegbe.
Long throws proved to be a source of success for both teams and Egham’s first-half added-time equaliser came from that route.
The throw was inadvertently headed on by a defender and was Connor Jeanes was able to convert at the far post.
Connor Cullen had Egham’s best chance of the second half, again from a long throw, while Florian Ada and Keegan Cole had openings for the Greens.
Josh Strizovic was penalised and cautioned for handling a back-pass outside his box, but the free-kick failed.
The winner, in the 92nd minute, was also from a long throw, taken by Krokhin. The ball fell to substitute Bradley Dixon-Smith, who turned and slotted home from close range.
