Westfield followed a simple game plan and it was too much for Hendon to cope with.
Run hard, pressure everywhere on the pitch and raid with pace down the flanks led to almost identical goals.
In the 14th minute, Didi Ndombe found himself in space down the right wing and his low cross was turned in by the late-arriving Ethan Lindo.
Hendon’s equaliser came after half an hour, Niko Muir sliding home a low cross from Javon Marquis after a neat pass from Keegan Cole.
Six minutes later, Ndombe and Lindo combined to restore Westfield’s advantage.
Careless passing out of defence was a constant problem for the Greens, and better finishing from Westfield might have seen the game put beyond Hendon before half-time.
Instead, the equaliser should have come just after half-time, Sam Shaban running clear at goal, but he hit a post from close range when it seemed easier to score.
Even then, there were two more chances in the move, but brave defending and rushed shooting meant Westfield’s lead remained intact.
Hendon were significantly better in the second half, making far fewer gaffes at the back, but they were distinctly pedestrian up front.
Josh Strizovic had little to do, but he did have to dive full length to push aside a shot from the edge of the box.
Another penalty area scramble saw Hendon frustrated and they were accepting their fate when, in the last few minutes, Cole, under no pressure, blasted over the bar from a very good position.
