A fantastic late fightback from Littlehampton Town brought them a point against Hendon, who had looked in control 3–0 up.
Having taken their three-goal lead, the Greens decided to shut up shop and were made to pay a heavy price.
The opening goal came after 38 minutes, Sam Shaban heading home after Billy Collinge had made a brilliant save from Keegan Cole’s 35-yard free-kick.
Cole should have scored himself a couple of minutes later. Clean through on goal after beating the offside trap, his shot was blocked by former Greens loanee Collinge with his legs.
Florian Ada made it 2–0 to Hendon when he beat Collinge to a through ball and walked it into the net.
Substitute Jordan Grey added a third goal after 68 minutes with a long-range curler.
In the 78th minute, George Gaskin reduced the arrears from close range after Josh Strizovich had made a superb double save.
All Hendon’s confidence drained away almost visibly, and it was no surprise when, about 90 seconds later, Littlehampton attacked next, that a rash challenge would be made.
The referee ruled the foul was inside the box and Dave Herbert emphatically converted the penalty.
It was now a matter of not so much would Hendon concede again but when would Hendon concede again. Five minutes into the seven of stoppage time, Hendon offended inside the centre circle.
The ball was curled towards the penalty area. No defenders moved and Strizovic came out to gather the ball.
Unfortunately for Strizovic and Hendon, he was beaten to the ball by Luis Tijan-Sparks and his header levelled the scores.
