Hendon's miserable run of defeats in away league fixtures against Enfield Town was extended with this latest 1–0 reversal at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

Although they played some good football at times throughout the evening, the Greens could not make any headway near to Town's goal. This was in the main due to some stout defending by the home team, with their central defenders dominating anything thrown at them. Ex-Don Joe Wright made a few comfortable saves, especially during the second half but Hendon were restricted to very few chances.

The decisive goal came after only 11 minutes. Sam Youngs took possession of the ball and drifted to the right past a couple of defenders before unleashing a fine drive low to Tim Lockwood's right, the ball nestling into the net despite a full-length dive by the helpless 'keeper. Enfield engaged some heavy-handed tackling to stop Hendon's pacy Ashley Nathaniel-George in particular, who looked dangerous in the first period, sending him sprawling on two occasions off the ball. The referee ignored quite a few hefty challenges but the first caution surprisingly happened to be a Hendon player – Keagan Cole – when he took out an opponent in the second half.

The away side zipped the ball around impressively enough but lacked any cutting edge around the penalty area. Whenever the ball was knocked down or deflected into a dangerous position it always seemed to fall to a white shirt so Enfield definitely rode their luck on occasions. But one cannot take anything away from their efforts defensively and they cleared every effort posing a real threat on their goal.

On a couple of occasions Hendon's fast movement created opportunities which were blasted over the bar; one excellent chance fell to Matt Ball from a direct free-kick just out the penalty area D in the second period but he lofted it well over too.

Not that the home team did not have chances of their own – on a few occasions they were able to get behind the Hendon defence but were wasteful with crosses or shots. Enfield wasted a few good shooting opportunities when well placed by finding the empty expanse behind the goal.

Town ended up with two cautions of their own, one for kicking the ball away and another for a foul tackle, whilst Arthur Lee's clash with the experienced Darren Purse inside the Enfield area left the former Birmingham captain on his backside, resulting in a joint lecture from the referee.

Try as they did, Hendon were unable to level with Niko Muir, a hat-trick hero in the meeting earlier in the season, having one of those quiet games. He was well marshalled by the defenders obviously briefed to snuff him out. This they did exceptionally well and Hendon were left mulling over a hugely disappointing fourth defeat in six away games – with the daunting prospect of facing Premier Division leaders Billericay Town away next.
