Match Report

**This game was abandoned three minutes into second half stoppage time due to a mass confrontation. The FA fined both clubs, and the Ryman League decided that the result at the time of the abandonment would stand**

AFC Sudbury managed to repel a concerted Hendon fightback in a match that was ultimately abandoned after a mass confrontation in stoppage time. There were several long-running battles between various players on each side that eventually boiled over into a huge fracas that saw Hendon's Kevin Maclaren, who had been substituted earlier, shown a red card.

The distasteful denouement took the gloss off an absorbing encounter in which Hendon were looking to secure just their second home league win. Against the run of play, Sudbury took the advantage in the first quarter of an hour, Ryan Henshaw rising unopposed to head in a corner for the visitors after a spell in which the home side went close on frequent occasions. Sudbury's hero was goalkeeper Marcus Garnham, who made several key saves as Hendon searched for an equaliser.

Sudbury soon doubled their lead, however, when Craig Parker poked home an excellent cross from the right. There was then a brief flare-up after a late challenge on Hendon's Elliott Brathwaite, a contretemps that started some simmering fractiousness between the two sides. Both teams contrived to miss several chances before the break, with Hendon making a double change at the interval, throwing on two forwards to try and claw their way back into the game.

Hendon laid siege to the Sudbury goal in the second half, substitute Elliott Charles eventually sweeping the ball into the net after some neat approach play. The rest of the half was largely one-way traffic with Hendon piling on the pressure, although Sudbury looked menacing on the break.

Despite their domination, Hendon were unable to equalise and Sudbury looked set to go home with three points until the unseemly scenes forced the referee to call a halt to proceedings.
