Match Report

Hendon rather threw away two points as they allowed a late Harlow Town equaliser at Silver Jubilee Park on Tuesday night. That said they had done well to come back from a goal down in the second half.

The Greens made on change to the team which had beaten Dulwich in the FA Cup at the weekend, Casey Maclaren dropping out of the squad to be replaced by Dave Diedhiou.

Apart from a very mild penalty claim for the Hawks in the opening 10 seconds, there was nothing noteworthy in the first quarter of an hour. In the next minute, however, Joey Benjamin delivered a teasing cross which a Hendon defender bundled away for a corner, the ball narrowly going the right side of the near post.

From the corner, Fabion Simms rose highest and powered a header just wide of the goal.

Hendon's response was a fluid move which ended with the ball at Spencer McCall's feet. His shot lacked power and David Hughes made a comfortable save.

In the 32nd minute, McCall and Hughes were involved again, the time the goalkeeper doing well to push aside a powerful curling drive, the ball coming off the foot of a post. As Chris Seeby chased the rebound, still in the penalty area, he appeared to be bundled over, but neither the referee nor his assistant saw the challenge as a foul.

Six minutes later, Hendon were behind. A long throw from Ibrahima Sonko was flicked on and Kieran Bishop knocked home the loose ball with no defender close enough.

The Hendon response was a chance for Karl Oliyide, but his effort was off target.

That was before the break; two minutes after the resumption, Oliyide was more accurate. It was a good goal, the striker running from just inside the Harlow half before driving a low shot just inside the post.

Midway through the half, Hendon had more bad luck when they hit the goal-frame for a second time. This time it was Dave Diedhiou who was the unfortunate player, his header hitting the underside of the crossbar before being hurriedly cleared.

In the 69th minute, Hendon made a double change, McCall and Khale da Costa, making way for Finbarr Robins and Keagan Cole. A minute later, the Greens took the lead.

It was all about Seeby, who went on a mazy run, beating three defenders. Although the angle was tight, there was space for a left foot shot.

However, Seeby used his right foot to curl the ball beyond Hughes's dive. The ball didn't have much power, but the curl was severe, and the ball struck the inside of the far post before trickling over the line.

The Harlow response was to send on Mario Noto and Leon Antoine for Lawrence Yiga and Benjamin. They would play large parts in the outcome of the match.

In the 80th minute, Alfie Young made a rash challenge on the edge of the penalty, a foul for which he was rightly cautioned. Noto's free-kick flew just over the penalty area.

Four minutes later, Young was penalised again and, stupidly, kicked the ball away. The second yellow card was inevitable and it meant Hendon had to play the final half-dozen minutes a defender short.

They could not hang on and, with four minutes of normal time remaining, the failed to clear the ball. When it fell to Antoine slammed the ball into the net.

Mayo Balogun was brought into the action for the additional four minutes, replacing Oliyide. It was a defensive measure that just about worked because Harlow could not grab a winning goal, while the Greens were limited to only a couple of solo raids.
