Match Report

The match with Deptford Invicta on Saturday at Deptford was one of the hardest encountered this season; but in gaining a victory by three goals to two Hampstead take the lead in Division 1 of the London League.

Both teams were strongly represented, Hampstead including in their forward line D Nisbet, the clever London Caledonian, who was not eligible to assist his own club.

The Town's clever close passing game did not meet with success at the start, Deptford taking the lead after twenty minutes play. Shortly afterwards the Town equalised through Marchant, who turned a good pass of Nisbet's to account.

The interval arrived with the score level, but Pennifer was unlucky with a great shot from 30 yards out, which was adroitly saved by the Invicta's goalkeeper.

The second half produced some lively football, which was somewhat marred by the unruly behaviour of a section of the home crowd. Deptford secured the lead again, but Pike quickly brought the score level with a grand individual attempt, and the same player shortly afterwards scored the winning goal.

Few teams win at Deptford, and the Town are to be congratulated on their latest performance.
