Match Report

From the Hendon & Finchley Times, 18 December 1915 :

Hampstead Town made their exit from the English Cup competition somewhat unexpectedly, when Bromley defeated them in the 5th Qualifying Round replay. On the previous Saturday, the Town effected a draw away, but on this occasion Bromley had the services of several of their more notable players who have joined the forces, and unquestionably, the better team won.

The Town showed excellent promise in the opening stages of the game, with G.J. Fox, on the left wing, making a fine start, and easily beating the opposing goal-keeper. After Bromley had equalised, the same player again secured the lead for the Town with a splendid individual effort, but the visitors continued to persevere and eventually crossed over at half-time with a one goal lead. They continued their winning way in the second period, the final score 5 goals to 2 in their favour.

From the Sportsman, 14 December 1915 (including teams) :

At Cricklewood-lane on Saturday Bromley showed improved form to that displayed the previous week, and won the replay [against Hampstead Town] by five goals to two. The home team, who were without the services of A.W. Humphreys at centre, were not so well together as the visiting team, and though Fox and Fraser stood out prominently at times Bromley had the better understanding forward. Fox opened the scoring for Hampstead Town after 11 minutes brisk play. Following this Winyard ran out to kick a clearance, and twice saved easily from centres and outside-right shots before Landrey beat him and put Bromley on terms. Hampstead pressed hotly now, and a fine movement, in which the ball was moved across the field from the right wing, culminated successfully with Fox dashing up and with a tremendously fast shot, and Guthrie at full length in goal, giving the Town the lead again. The home outside left showed very prominently hereabouts. He beat his opposing forward for speed and cleverness clearly, but he missed with two difficult shots, and after Garlick had tried and failed Bromley got away again, and in a mix-up in front of the home goal Learoyd got possession and put the visitors on terms once more. Winyard was kept desperately busy now, and though he gathered a hot shot up from the left neatly, and fisted another clear, with eight minutes to go to the interval McWhirter beat him, heading in cleverly, and Bromley crossed over leading by three goals to two. The visitors played up with any amount of dash on resuming and Landrey quickly added to Bromley's lead. Within three minutes Harkness had also scored for Bromley. That was the end of the scoring, but Winyard was kept constantly on the alert, and he saved splendidly from Harkness before the last named player, close in, netted again. After consultation with a linesman the referee disallowed the point on the ground of "handling." The winners meet Luton Town next Saturday at Bromley. Referee : Mr. H.V. Seaton.
