With a depleted team Hampstead Town visited Page Green Old Boys last Saturday in the first round of the Amateur Cup and were defeated by 4 goals to 2. A.W. Humphreys scored twice for the Town and later was unfortunate in missing with a penalty kick.
While the professional game is attracting a deal of unfavourable criticism and regarded by some as having an adverse effect on recruiting, amateur football looks likely to be suspended for the opposite reason, so many players, officials and supporters having joined the Forces. Since the outbreak of the war 18 members of the Hampstead Town Football Club have responded to their country's call, and each week witnesses further depletions in its ranks.
