Hampstead Town, who opened the season with a meritorious win by 7 goals to 2, were much too good for the Finchley F.C., who opposed them in a friendly encounter last Saturday at the Avenue ground before a considerable crowd.
E.J.E Wright, one of several members of the Hampstead club who have responded to the "call to arms" and who has volunteered and will shortly leave for foreign service, had the afternoon "off duty", and assisted his old club mates. He gave a polished display at centre-half, and to the delight of all present scored the opening goal of the season for the Town.
The other successful marksmen were A.W. Humphreys (4), T.B. Poltock, F.S. Rayner, the latter, who has had considerable football experience on the continent, proving a clever and speedy outside-right.
During the week other members of the club have signified their intention of joining the Forces, but, as previously stated, there is an excellent reserve of players to draw upon.
