Atr Dunstable, before a very big crowd which included over 150 of their own supporters who accompanied the team in motor char-a-bancs, Hampstead Town, in their return Athenian League match with Luton Clarence, were decisively beaten by six goals to none. Luton, who are now assured of the championship, adopted extremely vigorous tactics from the outset and were determined to triumph at all costs. Football of the most robust cup-tie order, with Clarence the heavier team, resulted in a succession of Hampstead players being rendered temporarily hors-de-combat. Nevertheless, at the interval Luton only held a one-goal lead, scored by their centre-half, W. Ansell, from a free kick. In the latter stages of the game, however, the Hampstead defence crumbled, and five more goals were scored by Luton through the agency of H. Ford (2), F. Liddle (2), and A. Ruffell. Although the score is by no means unusual, and several other prominent London amateur clubs sustained similar reverses on opponents' ground on Saturday, it is noteworthy that this is the biggest score recorded against them in the history of the Hampstead first eleven.
The outing, made in fine weather and under splendid auspices, proved exceedingly enjoyable and the reverse on the field in no way affected appetites for the excellent repast served in the pavilion on the ground after the game, and the subsequent conviviality on the return journey.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Town oppose Wimbledon F.C. (Athenian League) on the latter's fine enclosure at Plough Lane ; ten minutes walk Wimbledon Park (District Railway). No. 77a 'bus from King's Cross to Wimbledon Park is alsoa convenient route.
