Match Report

There were record attendances at the Avenue ground, Child's Hill, for the two important Athenian League games, with St. Albans City and Metrogas, over 5,000 spectators being present at the two matches.

On Saturday the crowd was swelled by over 600 visitors from St. Albans, who were enthusiastic supporters of ther team, which is running Hampstead close for the championship. A very fine game ensued, Hampstead playing like winners through a goal scored early in the first half by S. Briscoe. St. Albans, however, managed to equalize with a well-placed shot by their centre-forward, Minter, about ten minutes before the close. This result left the two teams in precisely the same position as before, with Hampstead a point to the good in the League table, and another close contest is bound to ensue when the clubs meet in the return match at the Cathedral City on Thursday next.
