Match Report

By six goals to nil Harlesden Town fell to Hampstead Town on Saturday at Child's Hill in the London Senior Cup. The luck of the draw was in favour of Harlesden, who, however, gave up choice of ground. The defeat might have been less severe had the match been played at Harlesden, but that Hampstead would have won even then seems almost certain.

Hmpstead had their usual team with the exception of L.G. Vance, at left half. Nearly half an hour elapsed before any scoring was done, but then goals came rapidly, Hampstead being four up at half-time through C. Wise, R. Kirby, and S. Howard (2). That from the captain was an oblique shot that the goalkeeper touched but could not save. After the interval Hampstead again did most of the attacking, and further goals were added by Kirby and Wise.

Harlesden played gamely to the finish, and the score is perhaps too flattering for Hampstead. Harlesden's work at times was brilliant, and C.B. Evans, the home goalkeeper, had some awkward shots to save. On the other hand, with a less experienced goalkeeper than A. Gilbert, who was in his best form, Harlesden would have been in a sorry position. Gilbert raised cheers time after time with his brilliant work. Some of his saves bordered on the impossible. With victory certain, some of the Hampstead supporters gave the Harlesden forwards a good deal of encouragement, and there would have been no tears if Evans had been beaten once.
