Hampstead [Town] negotiated a big proposition in visiting Metrogas at the Old Kent-road in their opening Athenian League game, and the result, 4-2 in favour of the home side, caused no surprise. Notable holiday absentees in C. Wise and S. Briscoe caused Hampstead to be weak and disjointed in attack, but, although the score would appear to belie the fact, their defence was sound, and at times brilliant. Particularly noticeable was the work of Cyril Evans in goal, H. Baxter and S. Dunstone were sound at back, and W. Brewer, A.W. Thwaites, and H. Woodward, all proved thoroughly reliable. Hampstead's goals were scored by G.H. Prince with a fine, long drive, and A.W. Thwaites with a dropping shot. As anticipated, the latter player is proving a great acquisition to the team.
