Although monopolising the attack and penning their opponents to their own half for three parts of the game, Hampstead [Town] could only score twice in their Athenian League match with Guildford on the Child's Hill ground.
There were good reasons, however, for the paucity of goals, the condition of the ground being deplorable after the heavy rains, and J.W. Cochrane, the well-known Durham 'Varsity Blue and County player, now residing in the locality, and turning out for his first game, sustained an injury in the first few minutes, which rendered him practically a passenger throughout. Hampstead are fortunate in securing his services, and have yet to see the capabilities of this fine player. F.G. Butler, who also played his first game for the Town at outside-right, made a very favourable impression.
C. Wise and G.F. Howell were responsible for the goals, and thus enabled Hampstead to continue their run of successes. They have not been beaten since January 6th.
