Although losing the match by two goals to one, Hampstead [Town] put up their best performance so far on the Luton Clarence ground, and were unfortunate in not at least sharing the points. Both teams played extremely well, but many good chances of scoring were missed by over eagerness in the first half. Immediately after change of ends, however, Travers Day scored a beauty for Hampstead. This advantage was neutralised by a penalty kick awarded to the Clarence for a debatable infringement and successfully converted, and their centre forward, who played a fine game, gave them the lead later.
G.F. Howell, Hampstead's new left winger, gave a particularly fine display, and combined well with C. Wise. G. Hughes and W.G. Brooker proved a very sound defence, and Lewis Smith made a welcome re-appearance at centre half.
