For the first time in recent seasons Hampstead Town were defeated on the Cheshunt ground in the Athenian League, and the homesters were good value for their 2-0 win. The efforts of the Hampstead forwards throughout were ineffective and below their usual standard, and this weakness was accentuated by the enforced absence of Lewis Smith, at centre-half, and J. Brooks, right-back, both temporarily on the injured list. L.G. Vance made the best of matters in the centre-half position, and the two reserve players - L. Evershed, at left-half, and J. Humphries, at back - both played well, but the general combination suffered by these changes. Evans shaped badly for Cheshunt's first goal, and they scored again before the interval. C. Wise, who was carefully guarded all through by the oppposing defence, had a couple of easy chances but missed both, and there was a lamentable failure to shoot at first opportunity by the other forwards.
