Match Report

Hampstead [Town]'s victory over Luton Amateurs in their English Cup-tie [F.A. Cup preliminary qualifying round] at Cricklewood-lane was not unexpected and the margin of success by five clear goals [5-0] fairly reflected the play. It took the home side some time to settle down and the visitors were at their best in the opening stages when they made several dangerous attacks. In this period Hampstead's new goalkeeper, E.F. Goodwin, made several fine saves, proving his merit as a custodian and justifying his selection. This player, a Guardsman, now resident in the district, is the recognised goalkeeper for the Army team in representative games, and Hampstead believe that at last they have secured the services of a really fine custodian.

F.G. Young opened the score after about a quarter of an hour's play, and Hampstead led by this margin at the interval. With the changeover goals came more readily, K. Seabrooke being responsible for two, F.G. Young netting again, and Cecil Wise, who captained the side, scored after a fine individual effort in which he displayed to perfection the art of controlling the ball and placing it well out of reach of the defender.

This well-merited success entitles Hampstead to entertain Enfield in the next round on the Child's Hill ground.
