The postponed match with Summerstown in the Athenian League took place at Earlsfield on Monday. When Hampstead went there a week or two ago the ground was unfit for a League match, and a "friendly" resulted in a win for Hampstead by three goals to two. It was therefore a slice of bad luck that on Monday, when they were unable to put out a full team, Trevers (goalkeeper) being one of the absentees, Summerstown should win by three goals to love. The game was marred by a boisterous wind, which seemed to upset Hampstead more than the home side, who well deserved their win.
Playing with the wind in the first half Summerstown, keeping the ball low, scored two goals, both credited to Daniels. Dominy missed a practically certain goal, and Birnie spoilt another chance by getting offside. Hampstead were completely outmanoeuvred, but they defended well.
The visitors went to pieces in the second half. They never adapted themselves to circumstances until it was too late, and, kicking the ball aimlessly, seldom got into the danger zone. The goal by Dominy for the home team reminded one of the Cardiff goal on Saturday, when Evans, in trying to clear, fell inside the net with the ball in his arms.
Only in the last ten minutes did Hampstead shape at all well. During this period they bombarded the home goal. Thornett was watchful and kept his goal intact. In the last minute Howell, the Hampstead left winger, hit the cross-bar with a terrific shot. The visitors retired beaten by 3-0.
