Hampstead suffered defeat by five goals to three at the hands of Enfield in the semi-final of the Middlesex Charity Cup at Claremont-road on Wednesday. Hampstead had almost a full team, Owens' place at left back being taken by Bloxham, and Bucci was at outside-left. The visitors, however, were short of several members of the first eleven, and therefore their victory was in the nature of a surprise. At the interval Enfield led by one goal, scored by C.L. Green, the outside-right, but on the run of the play Hampstead should have been in front. Hewitt, the Enfield goalkeeper, had far more work to do than Smith, in Hampstead's goal, some really good shots being put in by all the Hampstead forwards.
In the second half Hampstead fell off considerably. Daniels scored two goals early, the first of these coming after a brilliant run by Green. From a free kick resulting in a scrimmage in front of goal, Neil reduced the lead, but Daniels and Griffiths responded for Enfield, making the score 5-1 in their favour. Both Hampstead backs, Shorland and Bloxham, got injured and left the field, but while short-handed Hampstead managed to score two goals through Smy and Neil. Bloxham returned, but there were no more goals scored, Howe, Enfield's left-half, failing with a penalty kick.
Enfield made much better use of their opportunities than Hampstead, and deserved their win. Hampstead's defence was not too sound in the second half.
Enfield now meet Southall in the final.
