Hampstead staged an interesting friendly with Westminster Bank F.C., the undefeated leaders of the Southern Amateur League, on Saturday, and after an enjoyable game, except for the few who do not care to see their team defeated, and, in fact, only watch one side, Hampstead were defeated by four clear goals.
From the side which defeated Enfield the previous week Webb and Butland were absent, owing to injuries. Moore made his first appearance for a month, and Bucci was a doubtful starter up to the time of the kick-off, owing to an injury he had received on the Wednesday when playing for the County v. Suffolk.
At the commencement Hampstead attacked strongly, but the three inside forwards were weak in finishing. The Bank, however, soon got into their stride and displayed some pretty football, and they had the greater part of the play up to the interval, during which time their centre-forward, W.L. Franklin, scored three goals, the first two following good work on the left by R.R. Richards, whilst the third was scored when L.T. Dean drew S.R. Smith from his goal and neatly put the ball to Franklin to put into an empty net.
Five minutes after the interval Franklin put the Bank further ahead. Hampstead then tried hard to reduce the lead, but they found in the Bank a strong defence.
Although several excuses might be put forward for Hampstead's poor display in this match, due credit must be given to the Westminster Bank side, who are one of the best and most sporting sides seen on the Claremont-road enclosure this season.
