Evans played a great part in Hampstead's win by 5-2 over Wealdstone in the replayed F.A. Cup-tie last night [Thursday] at Claremont Road. He scored four goals, Eagles obtaining the other.
It was by playing surprisingly good football in the first few minutes of the game and by taking first-time shots that Hampstead laid the foundation of their victory. From the commencement of the game the whole team played as a human machine, and while scoring goals never allowed Wealdstone to settle down for at least 15 minutes.
Within five minutes Rees kicked hard towards goal, but Eagles flicked the ball to Evans, who gave the goalkeeper no chance with a hard low shot. Hampstead's second goal was due to good play by Lloyd, who, after easily tricking two defenders, centred for Welsh to put the ball at the feet of Evans. After tricking Davies he easily beat Poulson.
Hampstead's third goal was extremely lucky, Eagles - who scored - appearing from the stand to be well offside. The goalkeeper made little or no effort to save the shot. Thus half-time arrived with Hampstead leading by 3-0.
Wealdstone played determined football when the teams again took the field, and after four minutes they reduced the arrears, Groves beating Smith from a very acute angle. A little later Evans shot through a crowd of players and found the net. Ten minutes before time Evans put Hampstead further ahead.
In the last minute Wealdstone were awarded a penalty, from which Bowyer scored.
Hampstead entertain Southall in the next round.
