At Cricklewood, on Boxing Day, this return match produced a better game, the rain having made the pitch more sticky and better for both sides. The day was very dull and gloomy and it was doubtful if the game would be started. The attendance suffered accordingly.
Wealdstone made two changes, as did Golders Green, for whom Weeks and Joyce took the places of Rowe and Bucci (injured). Wealdstone started off well and were playing confidently, finding their men with good passes, but their finishing was poor. The Green, however, settled down and rather against the run of the play took the lead, Evans scoring from a perfect centre from Drinkwater. Wealdstone equalised with another fine goal, Hoskins, with a beautiful grounder, giving Smith, in goal, no chance. The game was now very even with both sides attacking in turn, until Weeks, shooting through a crowd of players, gave the Green the lead.
The next half started in very bad light, but it suddenly lifted for a time, and the ball could be followed. The Green scored a third goal when Evans, with a shot from the left, beat Wylde. The game now was very scrappy and with the bad light was a rather dull affair, until Wealdstone fought back and Potts reduced the lead.
Golders Green had to fight to keep Wealdstone from drawing level, and after a few anxious moments the whistle went for full time.
In both games Ellis and Richardson played well at back. Drinkwater was easily the best of the forwards, but Breagan showed a glimpse of his old form on Boxing Day. Broadis proved a great stopper and on Christmas Day gave Hoskins no rope.
For Wealdstone, Bloxham was a tower of strength at centre half, while Ryder and Maskell were the best of the forwards. Russell played a great game at left half on Christmas morning.
[N.B. Wealdstone's two changes on Boxing Day have not been traced, so the team shown is that for Christmas Day.]
