At Claremont Road on Friday, Golders Green turned out a strong side to oppose the Hendon League champions [Deerfield Social].
Deerfield started off in good style, Tummond having difficulty in clearing a hard drive from Lammas. After 15 minutes' open play Theobald scored with a long shot, Carter being apparently unsighted. Within a few minutes Geary had brought the scores level, heading in from a centre by Hunt. Starkins should have put the visitors in the lead, but shot into the goalkeeper's hands from close in.
Drinkwater was playing a grand game and it came as no surprise when he drove in a shot from the wing to put the Green ahead. Just before half-time the visitors' left-back, Pidgeon, was injured and took no further part in the game. This was a tragedy for the junior side, for Pidgeon was using his speed to effectively stop the activities of Breagan. Half-time : Golders Green 2 ; Deerfield 1.
On resumption the Green took command of the game and put on three goals through Drinkwater, Boston [J, presumably] and Bucci. During this period Miles, in an unaccustomed position at left-back, played a strong game, kicking and tackling extremely well [for which club? - name not included in team line-ups].
When Deerfield forgot they were playing with a depleted team they put up a better show and during the last ten minutes should have scored more than once, Starkins and Lammas going close with good efforts before Geary again beat Tummond with a neat header.
The final whistle came with the score : Golders Green 5 ; Deerfield 2.
