The play of their half-backs had much to do with Golders Green's victory over Ilford in the semi-final of the London Senior Cup at Leyton on Good Friday. They now have to meet either Walthamstow Avenue or Southall in the final, these teams having drawn 1-1 on Saturday.
Bloxham, Broadis and Evans tackled so well that Ilford's forwards were never able to get together as a line.
Golders Green's victory was well deserved. Making more use of their chances, they established a two-goal lead early in the second half, and although Ilford managed to reduce it with nine minutes left for play, the Athenian club seldom looked like losing their hold on the game and were attacking at the finish.
Golders Green reconstituted their side early in the game when Bucci was injured and moved to outside-left, Duffield, who was booked to play in that position, leading the forwards, and that versatile player, T.E. Evans, filling the left-half position.
Most of Ilford's attacks were broken up by Golders Green's strong defence. [W.] Boston had an especially good match, and Broadis was usually able to hold Watts.
The best movement of the day - started by Bucci - culminated in Breagan giving Golders Green the lead after half-an-hour's play. It was increased by Duffield, who took advantage of a miskick by Myers to score shortly after half-time.
Nine minutes from time Braund put his side on fighting terms when he converted a penalty for hands, but afterwards the Golders Green defence steadied and Ilford never really looked like equalising.
