From the West Middlesex Gazette, 19 October 1940 :
After being three goals down at half-time Southall made a great rally at Golders Green in the Herts and Middlesex League on Saturday and were unlucky to lose by 3-2.
Southall were without Rowe, Wellstead and Marshall, unable to get away from business. Golders Green scored in the first few minutes and, when they added two more goals before half-time, it looked as if Southall were in for a heavy defeat.
But in the second half Southall were decidedly on top and only the brilliance of their goalkeeper saved Golders Green. He made some great saves, including a penalty. Morrad and Russell obtained Southall's goals.
