Golders Green, for their away Herts and Middlesex Combination fixture with Barnet on Saturday, had to make one or two positional changes. Bucci was unable to play owing to indisposition, and this left the Green without a centre-half, but J. Ellison sportingly offered to fill the gap.
F. Boston resumed at left-half, Breagan reverting to his original position at right-half. Barnet's side was composed mainly of youngsters and, considering all things, gave the better show of the two teams.
Golders Green scored first, after 15 minutes, through Pulling from a corner taken by Coleman after Holben had saved from Breagan.
In the first half Golders Green forwards did a lot of attacking, but the play was far too close and many opportunities were missed that would have been turned to account if the wingers had been fed instead of the inside men dribbling so much.
Half-time arrived with Golders Green leading by the only goal. Early in the second half Tolchard snapped up a pass given by Weightman and equalised for Barnet. A minute later Saw, from 40 yards out, drove the ball well past Hart.
The Green were awarded a penalty when Cochrane was tripped while going through and F. Boston scored on a rebound. The next 15 minutes saw some sterling football by Barnet and twice within a brief space Saw scored. Receiving the ball from Duncan each time, he outran the Green defence and drove the ball in from 40 yards, right out of Hart's reach.
Saw, at outside-right, was outstanding for Barnet, as was Holben in goal. Ellison shone in his unaccustomed position for Golders Green and Stroud and Cochrane were the best of the forwards. Hart had little opportunity with any of the goals.
