In the Herts and Middlesex League Challenge Cup final at Finchley, on April 28, the Green put up a great fight but after extra time had to admit a narrow defeat at the hands of Barnet, who deserved their win because their forward line was faster and more skilful than that of their opponents.
They took the lead in the third minute, when, receiving from Jordan, Kelleher crashed home a terrific shot. The game swung rapidly to and fro, but half-time came without further score. Barnet made many dangerous raids, but the Green held the attacks. They did not appear to be able to press home their advantage, and as the final minutes ebbed away, the game seemed lost. Then, with barely a minute to go, Thomas received the ball and shot home a fine goal to equalise.
The full time whistle went almost at once, and extra time began. After six minutes' play, though up the slope, Barnet took the lead again. Powell had saved from Griffiths, and their right wing dashed away, putting the ball in for Green to score from close range.
Barnet again crossed over holding the lead, but after six minutes of the final quarter of an hour, Thomas gained possession and centred across to Fair, who passed in for Griffiths to net.
Two or three minutes later came the winning goal. Barnet broke away and Reilly gained possession near the goal, to shoot home past Roberts.
