Played in the snow, this 4th round Middlesex Senior Cup-tie ended in a one-all draw at Claremont Road last Saturday. It is satisfactory that two good sides which were prevented by the conditions from using the best of their skill, will have a further chance.
Tufnell Park are a workmanlike side, in which Moon was a sound 'keeper, Lane played a great game at left back and the middle line was sound. They relied on long clearances from the rearguard and fast runs by forwards lying well up: these tactics frequently had Golders Green's defence in difficulties.
The Green played a hard, sound game, with Topp and Bossoms outstanding, while Bucci, Cox and Robshaw did splendid work. Except for one fatal lapse, Gallacher dealt most effectively with the elusive Richards.
Tufnell Park took the lead after half an hour when, with Gallacher indulging in dribbling up the field, the ball was returned over his head, leaving Richards unmarked; his pass was intercepted, but the ball ricocheted back to Weston, close in, and he scored with a low, first time shot.
Golders Green were more aggressive after the interval. Moon saved grandly from a free kick taken by Gallacher, while Roberts made an excellent clearance from Penn.
The Greens' equaliser came after 25 minutes as a result of a really brilliant piece of work by Bucci. Receiving from Cox, he worked out to the left and put over a beautiful centre which Fair, closing in, headed into the net. Soon afterwards, Moon was knocked out by a rasping drive from Robshaw, the best shot of the match, the goalie turning it for a corner.
Full-time came with a blizzard raging and, after consultation, the referee wisely decided that extra time was impracticable. The replay will take place on February 17.
