Golders Green disappointed their home supporters last Saturday when, receiving the newly re-started Barking side, they lost by 5 goals to 3.

On this showing, they will require considerable strengthening to hold their own in the Athenian League. Roberts was not too safe in goal, though he was frequently left unprotected; Fisher has often played better, while his partner, Cassey, on trial at left-back, though he showed style, is not quite up to Athenian standard. The half-back line was not good, Gray and Morgan being allowed far too much rope, while the only forward to shine was Fair, who was a continual trouble to the visiting defence. Griffiths, though he scored two goals, missed two easy chances and skied a penalty kick at a critical time. Stroud played as an individual rather than as a member of a team, and much of the weakness of the attack was due to his persistent refusal to centre at the right time.

After 25 minutes, Fair hit the post with a fine shot, and on the rebound centred for STROUD to head an easy goal. GRAY equalised for Barking, and it was then that the Green's penalty kick was awarded and missed. Then GRAY scored again, and half-time came with Golders Green 1, and Barking 2.

Five minutes after the re-start, GRIFFITHS equalised from a pass by Fletcher, but the Green gradually fell away and three goals from LATOUCHE, in the 15th, 18th and 30th minute [of the half], settled the issue. Eight minutes from time, GRIFFITHS scored, then Fletcher got right through, putting in a strong shot wide of the post.
